the form,
kept.

A sculpture commissioned from your own body.

In the final weeks of pregnancy, we capture a form that exists only briefly. Over the months that follow, that moment is sculpted, built and finished by hand. A lasting record of a fleeting form.

01   The object

A commissioned sculpture
made from you.

Every commission begins with a 3D scan of your body.

Your exact form, captured at one particular moment in time. From that scan, a singular sculpture is created and finished by hand in high-gloss lacquer, with the option of a hand-cut stone plinth.

Made at an intimate scale and intended to live as an object in the home, each piece is both portrait and sculpture. A record of a form that existed only for a moment.

01B   The bases

Brass, or stone.

Every sculpture is finished on a flat brass plate, included with your commission. For greater presence, the piece can instead be set on one of three hand-cut stone plinths.

Included brass plate

The brass plate.

Every sculpture is finished on a flat plate in solid brass, included with your commission. Minimal in profile, the brass brings a warm contrast to the lacquered form and will develop a natural patina over time.

For a more substantial base, choose one of the hand-cut stone plinths below.

Optional

Three stone plinths.

Each finished at 127 mm and chosen in person at your session, against your finish. From $650 CAD.

02   The commission

Your sculpture begins
with a capture.

Your session is quiet and unhurried. The capture itself takes only minutes, recording your form from every angle with remarkable precision. From there, your capture moves into the studio, where it becomes the foundation for your sculpture.

The capture is made using a high-precision handheld 3D scanner.

  5. Delivery

Approximately twelve weeks later, your finished sculpture arrives at your home.

05   Questions

Before you join.

What is a capture?

A 3D scan of your body. A handheld scanner is passed around you and records the surface of your form as several million points, building an exact digital model of the shape you are on that day.

Nothing touches you and nothing is cast. That model is what the studio sculpts from, and it is the reason the finished piece is unmistakably you rather than a generic torso.

Is the capture safe during pregnancy?

Yes. The scanner never touches you and emits no radiation of any kind. There is no X-ray, no ultrasound and no UV. It works the way a camera does, by recording light reflected off the surface of your skin, using a bright flash and white LEDs. Standing in front of it is no different from having your photograph taken.

Nothing passes into or through the body. The only thing recorded is your outer surface, and the whole capture takes just a few minutes.

One thing worth knowing: the scanner flashes rapidly while it works. If you have photosensitive epilepsy, or any other condition affected by flashing light, please speak with your doctor beforehand and tell us when you register so we can plan your session around it.

Am I booking a session?
No. You are joining a private list. Nothing is scheduled, nothing is charged, and you are not committed to a commission. When the studio confirms a city and sets dates, the list is contacted first and offered spaces before anything is announced publicly. Spaces at the first event are limited.
When in my pregnancy should I be captured?
We recommend between 30 and 36 weeks, late enough that the form is fully itself, early enough that standing still for a few minutes is comfortable. Any week works if that window does not suit you, and you do not have to be pregnant at all. The same process makes a commemorative piece at any stage.
What do I wear?

For the truest result you are captured fully nude. The scanner reads skin directly, and any fabric becomes part of the surface it records.

If you would rather keep underwear on, you are welcome to. We edit it out of the model afterwards, and the finished sculpture looks the same either way. It is simply a little more work at our end, not yours.

The capture is always carried out by a female scanner. It happens in a private room, takes only a few minutes, and you are welcome to bring whoever you like with you.

What happens to my capture?

Your capture is never shared, never licensed, never sold, and never used in our marketing without your written permission.

It is stored anonymously. Your file carries a unique reference number rather than your name, and that number is what moves through production.

We hold it for one year, so that if you decide you want a second piece you do not have to sit for another capture. After a year it is deleted. You can ask us to delete it sooner at any time and we will.

When do I pay?
Only once you have been offered a space and choose to accept it. A $500 non-refundable deposit secures your commission, with the remaining balance settled at the studio on the day of your capture. The deposit is applied toward the total price; it is not an additional fee.
How long until it arrives?
Approximately twelve weeks from the day of your capture. Each sculpture is made individually, then hand-finished and lacquered, a process we do not rush. Your finished piece arrives at your home in a custom keepsake box with a protective dust bag, fully insured in transit.
Can you come to me?

Yes. Sessions can be held in your own home rather than at a studio location, which some clients prefer for privacy or simply for comfort late in pregnancy. Everything else about the session is the same.

The studio also travels internationally by arrangement. If you are outside Toronto, Ottawa or Montréal, or outside Canada altogether, say so in your registration and we will come back to you with what it would involve. Any travel fee is agreed with you in advance, before anything is committed.

Can you capture a partner, or both of us?
The current commission is a single torso, in one of the three lacquers. Other formats and materials are in development. Note it in your registration and we will tell you when they open.
